Local Group Meetings
Over the last few weeks each of the three Local Groups has had its first meeting. These included:
- 29th April – the Solent/Isle of Wight/Hampshire Local Group, Southampton
- 5th May - the Essex/Thames/North Kent Local Group, London
- 11th May – the Sussex/South Kent Local Group, Brighton
The objectives of the meetings were similar to those of the Regional Stakeholder Group meeting, held on April 22nd and were as follows:
- Develop a common understanding of the objectives, challenges, working process and expected outputs from the Balanced Seas project
- Become familiar with the Local Group area and the activities of other sectors within it.
- Comment on and adopt Terms of Reference for the group
- Get a clear idea of the way forward
Each meeting had the same format, and included:
- presentations from the Project Team to give an overview and update on the Balanced Seas project
- small group discussions to identify challenges and opportunities related to the process ahead
- a mapping exercise giving participants a chance to familiarise themselves with the types of data they will be using at future meetings, to identify sources of data needed for the planning process, and to flag up sites of interest that the Regional Stakeholder Group should consider
- a review of the draft Terms of Reference for the group
Each meeting was attended by between 25 and 30 individuals representing the range of marine sectors in each local area. Positive feedback was gained from all three meetings, showing that participants felt that they had had the chance to air their views and listen to the opinions represented by other sectors. The Project Team are compiling the meeting reports which will be posted on the website shortly.
The lists of members of the three Local Groups can be downloaded below. Note that in some cases, a substitute representative attended the meetings.
